Frederick Douglas Comparative Essay Essays

Malcolm X/Frederick Douglas Comparative Essay Essays Malcolm X/Frederick Douglas Comparative Essay Malcolm X/Frederick Douglas Comparative Essay Basil Al Bader 99629 English Composition I Contras/Comparative Essay Final Draft Malcolm X/Frederick Douglas Malcolm X and Frederick Douglas were two primary figures of the dark network in the United States. Them two were self-taught. Them two confronted difficulties to accomplish their training and them two had affected by the development of their insight. We will find in this paper how they took in, the difficulties they confronted while attempting to realize and what effect realizing had on them. For both Malcolm X and Frederick Douglas, figuring out how to peruse was an entire procedure that required some serious energy. The main point that we will state is the earth where they figured out how to peruse and compose. In 1946,Malcolm X was condemned eight to ten years in jail. This is the place his enthusiasm for perusing and composing took birth. It is separated from everyone else in jail that Malcolm opened his first book, which for an issue was a word reference. In his memoir, Malcolm clarifies the disappointment he continually felt while attempting to communicate his sentiments in letter that he composed. It is this disappointment that drove him to demand a word reference. By then, Malcolm didn't understand such a significant number of words existed â€Å"I went through two days simply riffling ncertainly through the word reference pages. I’d never acknowledged such huge numbers of words existed! † (211) It is by then that he began to duplicate the word reference. In the wake of replicating the principal page, he’d read his notes so anyone can hear again and again. By this proc edure, Malcolm made for himself an incredible method to learn â€Å" I woke up next morning, pondering those words †¦ I could likewise recall what a large number of those words meant† (211). By then Malcolm was propelled â€Å"I was intrigued to the point that I went on †¦ I replicated the dictionary’s next page†. Frederick Douglas procedure to learn was unique. The primary point that we will state is that Frederick was a slave. : He wasn’t at first permitted to figure out how to peruse and compose. In any case, he got the opportunity to be acquainted with that significant information by his escort â€Å"Very not long after I went to live with Mr. also, Mrs. Auld, she compassionately initiated to show me the A, B, C† (Page given in class). Shockingly, this circumstance didn’t last. When his lord acknowledged what was happening, the mistress’s disposition changed. She really quit showing him and for a self evident truth turned into a hindrance to his learning. Starting now and into the foreseeable future Frederick needed to locate an other method to learn. One way that he portrays just like the best was to change over each sing id that he met into an instructor â€Å" The arrangement, which I received, and the one by which I was the best, was that of making companions of all the little white young men whom I met in the street† (130). This is the primary explanation of his pros perity to get the hang of perusing â€Å"With their compassionately help †¦ I at long last prevailing with regards to figuring out how to read†. The fundamental distinction that we can discover between the manners in which they learned is that Malcolm X learned all alone, with no assistance while Frederick Douglas utilized the information on his friends. Figuring out how to peruse was a long procedure however state that it was a hard procedure. Them two confronted difficulties while learning. Life in jail is administered by extremely severe standards. Malcolm X had, with a specific goal in mind, to battle with proposals rules. One of them was the light termination. Consistently, at ten P. M. , lights were turned of and night monitors goes before each room each hour. Malcolm X depicts this circumstance â€Å" †¦ consistently at around ten P. M. I would be insulted with the ‘’lights out’’†¦ At one-hour stretch around evening time watches paced past each room† (213). Resolved to peruse Malcolm consistently established an approach to beat propositions difficulties â€Å" Fortunately, directly outside my entryway was an orridor light that cast a sparkle into my room. The shine was sufficient to peruse by †¦ each time I heard the moving toward strides, I bounced into bed and faked sleep†. Frederick Douglas needed to confront an other sort of challenge. The first was the mean conduct of his lords. As said beforehand, Frederick’s mistress’s disposition changes. This progressions is a significant snag to his learning as he depicts in his life story how fierce her resistance was â€Å"The initial phase in her descending course was in her stopping to train me †¦ She turned out to be much more rough in her restriction than her better half himself â€Å". Frederick had likewise the sentiment of being viewed, under reconnaissance, which he depicts in his book â€Å" From this time I was most barely viewed. In the event that I was in a different room †¦ I made certain to be associated with having a book† (130). One thing that we can see on both Malcolm X and Frederick Douglas is the effect that figuring out how to peruse and compose had on them. Them two acknowledged and saw progressively about the Black history, the bad form they needed to confront and the bitterness of this circumstance. It likewise affected on their confidence and fearlessness. In â€Å"Learning to Read†, Malcolm X causes us to see how figuring out how to peruse as positive for him and helped him to help his detainment as he says â€Å"Months went without my in any event, pondering being detained. Truth be told, up to at that point, I never had been so genuinely free in my life† (212). The enthusiasm he created for perusing made time immorta l. Perusing permitted him to comprehend the historical backdrop of individuals of color, which turned into the fundamental subject of his readings â€Å"I never will overlook how stunned I was the point at which I started finding out about slavery’s all out ghastliness †¦ Book after book gave me how the white man had brought upon the world’s black†¦peoples each assortment of the enduring of exploitation† (214-215). For Malcolm X perusing is the lement that will change his life everlastingly as he says â€Å" perusing opened to me †¦ perusing had changed always the course of my life† (217). We can say that perusing positively affected Malcolm X. It opened his eyes and permitted him to pick up trust in himself and to turn into the extraordinary lobbyist that we know. Frederick Douglas, in the opposite, causes us to feel that he didn't value the results of that learning as much as Malcolm. All things considered, perusing and all the more expli citly finding out about the dark history excites in him a profound annoyance, as he says â€Å"The more I read, the more I was directed to severely dislike and hate my enslavers† (132). Frederick additionally portrays the profound fortitude he had by perusing, â€Å"read had just come, to torment and sting my soul† (132). Clearly it isn't a lot of perusing that hurt him yet the information he receives in return. The effect was so negative; he truly gives us the inclination that sooner or later he was going tossed a genuine discouragement, â€Å"I begrudged my individual slaves for their idiocy †¦ I regularly got myself lamenting my own reality, and wishing myself dead† (132). In the wake of looking at Malcolm X and Frederick Douglas, we can see that them two figured out how to peruse and write in their own specific manner, that them two needed to confront hallenges yet the most significant thing to see is that them two turned out to be significant figures of the dark network in America and them two assumed a significant job in the advancement of the states of the dark network. It is imperative to state that in the two cases, perusing opened entryw ays for them. It permitted them to be increasingly aware of their history and obviously gives them more information to get it. I truly imagine that the general message that we ought to get from these two stories is simply the significance to instruct, that this training now a days, many individuals still can’t get to is one of the keys to opportunity.

Corporate Responsibility and Marketing Strategies Essay

Look at Apple’s current situation on the company’s moral and social obligations, and decide if the organization has met these duties. Give two (2) models that help your position. Notwithstanding boosting benefits, one of the primary destinations to numerous organizations today is to be notable for their mindful administration and moral execution. Apple is one of the most significant organizations all through the world in light of its size and their imaginative items and administrations (Sanchez-Barajas, 2012). By and by, advancement is the thing that drives the area improvement and the reason for the financial turn of events. Besides, Apple has made around 514,000 occupations in 2011, which is a galactic duty to the economy (Sanchez-Barajas, 2012). Moreover, due to their plan of action concentrating on redistributing and their item attributes, Apple could sum up material issues in two classifications: natural effect and flexibly chain the board (Sanchez-Barajas, 2012). These issues appear to be the reason for comprehension Apple’s corporate social obligation. To begin with, Apple items are intended to kill natural effect, by utilizing less vitality utilization, little bundles, and reusing techniques (Sanchez-Barajas, 2012). Be that as it may, there are reactions with the risk of certain materials utilized for IPads or IPhones, and the advancement of material for creation. With regards to flexibly chain, Apple’s moral execution approach lining up with the whole gracefully chain is very much clarified. This goes farther than the Foxconn outrage. As per Tyson (2013), â€Å"Foxconn, which is a mainstream Apple contractual worker for Apple, had horrible working conditions, where representatives would prefer to murder themselves than assemble an Apple item. The absence of successful corporate administration and compelling foundations in where they work together has added to the difficulties of the control of a few providers, and high hazar d for the organization with regards to damaging work rehearses and not consenting to the law (Sanchez-Barajas, 2012). Apple has the systems, and the data and comprehension about their impact on society (Sanchez-Barajas, 2012). The fundamental test relies intensely upon the control of that sway. By the by, Apple is by all accounts going about as a balanced corporate resident (Sanchez-Barajas, 2012). Apple’s aspiration concerning gracefully chain the executives is fundamental for a capable business. Decide the effect that theâ publication of morals and social duties infringement made by Apple’s providers has had on Apple’s notoriety. Bolster your reaction with instances of the effect being referred to. Apple built up their set of principles in 2005 (Kaiser, 2012). It states â€Å"that working conditions in Apple’s gracefully chain are sheltered, that laborers are treated with deference and nobility, and that assembling forms are earth responsible† (para. 3). In spite of the fact that their provider set of accepted rules had incredible goals, it was not being bolstered either by Apple or its significant providers (Kaiser, 2012). For instance, representatives were grumbling of working long hors in hazardous conditions with little compensation (Kaiser, 2012). Foxconn, their provider in Chengdu, China, was liable in abusing Apple’s supplier’s code of morals. A large number of the representatives worked over 60 hours out of each week. As indicated by Kaiser (2012), some of the time there would be around 20 workers stuffed inside a three-room loft. Moreover, Foxconn were utilizing underage laborers (Kaiser, 2012). Moreover, the production lines were ineffectively ventilated, and the industrial facilities were being overwhelmed with aluminum dust from the machines that sparkles the housings for IPads Apple has been enduring an onslaught since the Foxconn embarrassment. Neither the laborers nor the processing plant pioneers had a l ot to state about the issue. Subsequently, the issue lies with Apple. As per Karimova (2012), in the wake of checking Apple’s CSR arrangement there is more center concerning the nature of items as opposed to the worries of providers. As indicated by Karimova (2012), over half of the temporary workers being investigated by the organization have dismissed the code in any event one time every year since 2007. The organization has been blamed for choosing to disregard as their providers dirty the nation of China (Hay, 2013). Poisonous releases have been intruding the networks. These huge volumes of release inside the flexibly chain have made incredible threat the wellbeing and security of people in general. This was not the first run through where Apple was examined for ecological infractions and their cryptic gracefully chain the executives in Chines fabricating processing plants, where there items are collected (Gray, 2013). Recommend two (2) techniques that Apple can use to guarantee that its providers cling to wage and advantages norms going ahe ad. Legitimize your reaction One technique I would recommend to Apple is to ensure that the providers are considered responsible for any bad behaviors. My next proposal would be for Apple to have shock visits to theirâ supplier’s producing offices. Apple should begin following the work hours of the providers themselves and not depend entirely on what the provider needs to state. Moreover the obtainment group must connect with providers every day to set sure their work expectations are met. As per Supplier Responsibility (2014), Apple started following the week by week work hours for about 1 million laborers; additionally they start to distribute their discoveries on a month to month premise. Thus, about 92% of contractual workers were in consistence with the organization over all work weeks, and the normal hour out of every week was under 50 hours (Supplier Responsibility, 2014). Next, Apple ought not endure any type of underage work. I would suggest done working with providers that have underage laborers. This may mean moving their activities inside the United States. In any case, when Apple found that their providers had underage specialists working for them, they requested them to address this issue promptly as a major aspec t of [their] Underage Labor Remediation Program (Supplier Responsibility, 2014). On the off chance that it is found that a provider has underage specialists, the provider must counter that laborer to an instructive establishment and reserve their training to whichever organization they family picked (Supplier Responsibility, 2014). Moreover, the youngster would keep getting pay of what they were accepting while at the same time working for the provider (Supplier Responsibility, 2014). I would likewise recommend that Apple catch up with the family to ensure the providers are holding up their finish of the deal. Decide if you accept that Apple’s clients would pay more for its items if Apple needed to build offering costs so as to give better wages and advantages to suppliers’ laborers. Give a method of reasoning to your position I trust Apple clients would pay more for Apple items. This is all because of a straightforward idea called brand faithfulness. Business word reference (2014) characterizes brand unwaveringness as: â€Å"the degree of reliability of shoppers to a specific brand, communicated through their recurrent buys, regardless of the advertising pressure produced by the contending brand† (para. 1). I am a dependable client of Apple. I own few Apple items, and I would follow through on expanded costs for their items. Apple’s clients are faithful to the point that they will camp outside the Apple store looking out for the new arrival of the most recent Apple item. Moreover, when there are issues with Apple items, purchasers are exceptionally persistent with Apple as theyâ resolve these issues (Goodson, 2011). They comprehend to the way that specialized issues will emerge, and they will keep on purchasing the items in any case to any missteps the organization may make (Goodson, 2011). The late Steve Jobs was energetic about Apple items, he generally guaranteed that they were of the best quality and had an inv entive plan (Goodson, 2011). As indicated by Goodson (2011), Brand dependability is one of the principle reasons Apple is so effective today. To start with, Apple has manufactured associations with their clients by being dependable and straightforward (Goodson, 2011). Also, Apple has completed some exceptionally inventive advertising techniques (Goodson, 2011). Besides, they don't concentrate on the real item itself, nonetheless; they center around what the item can accomplish for the buyer. Apple’s statement of purpose is exceptional. It doesn't discuss their items, however what they really put stock in. It states: â€Å"Apple is focused on bringing the best individualized computing experience to understudies, teachers, imaginative experts and shoppers around the globe through its creative, programming and Internet offerings† (Goodson, 2011, para. 11). The achievement of Apple is on the grounds that their statement of purpose resounds all through all aspects of Apple’s activities (Goodson, 2011). At long last, energy and commitment goes into making Apple items, and individuals who purchase those items comprehend. Dissect Apple’s current generally speaking showcasing procedure. Suggest two (2) moves that Apple can make so as to improve its upper hand in the worldwide commercial center. Bolster your reaction with instances of occurrences where your suggestions yielded the ideal outcomes. Since the fuse of Apple in 1977, financial specialist/guide, Mike Markkula made a 3-point promoting reasoning that has remained the center of the adequacy of Apple today (Moorman, 2012). Here is Apple’s unique 3 point as per Moorman (2012): 1.Empathy 2.Focus 3.Impute These standards made the organization one of the worlds’ most important organizations. (Moorman, 2012). Some portion of their promoting system is that they recruit client fixated, sympathetic workers. A significant key to Apple’s achievement is that they make items that the cu

What or Who is Responsible for the Deaths of Romeo and Juliet Essay Example For Students

What or Who is Responsible for the Deaths of Romeo and Juliet Essay There are numerous reasons why Romeo and Juliet passed on. One might say that Capulet, Lady Capulet, Montague, Tybalt, Mercutio, Benvolio, Nurse or Friar Lawrence caused the passings of Romeo and Juliet. As I would see it the entirety of the above characters had a section in the passings of Romeo and Juliet. Their demises could likewise be down to destiny, fortuitous event or decision. Again I feel that it is a mix of these. In this paper I will investigate the purposes behind their demises. I will talk about which characters and which topics had an impact in their demises. In Elizabethan London when Shakespeare composed the play theater going was famous. The venue turned into a gathering place for companions as individuals needed to get to the performance center an hour or two ahead of time since it was so mainstream. They could get some food and a beverage while chatting with companions before the play started. We will compose a custom article on What or Who is Responsible for the Deaths of Romeo and Juliet explicitly for you for just $16.38 $13.9/page Request now Individuals of all classes delighted in the theater. The lower classes would need to pay a penny to watch the play from the open yard region. They would need to stand and gaze toward the on-screen characters on the one and a half meter high stage. The working classes would have the option to watch the play from the seats, which encompassed the yard. There was likewise material over the situated region. This included some major disadvantages however, two pence extra. The privileged societies could sit in the encased room situates yet these came at a significant expense. (A penny was roughly one twelfth of a gifted workmans day wage.) The stages comprised of three levels and were very huge in contrast with the little theater. This was so on-screen characters performing discourses could contact the hearts of the crowd without any problem. Likewise on the other extraordinary, fights could be ordered utilizing genuine gun discharge, boisterous music and thunder and helping. There was no painted landscape so the crowd needed to utilize their creative mind to picture the areas and condition for every scene. Shakespeare ensured that the entertainers or storyteller put across nitty gritty sign of the view. The absence of landscape implied that scene changes were snappy so it was simple for the crowd to follow. At the point when the play starts destiny is a significant principle topic. Destiny in Shakespearian occasions implied that individuals believed that their predetermination was written in the stars. They accepted that the stars controlled what befell them. Romeo and Juliet were depicted as a couple of star-crossed sweethearts. This implies they met by destiny as their stars had crossed. Destiny likewise works by sensational incongruity, which gives the crowd a knowledge into what may occur. I dread, too soon; for my psyche misgives Some outcome, yet hanging in the stars Will harshly start his frightful date With this evenings delights, and lapse the term Of a detested life shut in my bosom, By some awful relinquish of awkward demise. However, he that hath the controlling of my course Direct my suit. On hearty respectable men. In this section by Romeo destiny is the fundamental topic. He fears that something awful may occur yet hanging in the stars. Indeed, even a less than ideal passing may come. What will happen will happen in light of the fact that a person or thing is controlling his life. In the play fortuitous event works by what we presently call destiny. It was incident that Capulet gave the greeting rundown to a worker who couldn't peruse. Additionally it was fortuitous event that Romeo happened to be there when the hireling required somebody to peruse the rundown for him. .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4 , .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4 .postImageUrl , .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4 .focused content region { min-tallness: 80px; position: relative; } .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4 , .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4:hover , .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4:visited , .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4:active { border:0!important; } .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4 { show: square; change: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-progress: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; murkiness: 1; change: mistiness 250ms; webkit-change: haziness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4:active , .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4:hover { obscurity: 1; change: darkness 250ms; webkit-change: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4 .focused content zone { width: 100%; position: relative; } .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4 .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content embellishment: underline; } .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; outskirt range: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; text style weight: striking; line-stature: 26px; moz-fringe sweep: 3px; content adjust: focus; content beautification: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: supreme; right: 0; top: 0; } .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u63c 1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u63c1ca522a74cbb86c0c650532e82ea4:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Compare and complexity A Wife in London EssayGod gi god-cave. Ay, in the event that I know the letters and the language. Ye state sincerely; rest you happy. Stay individual, I can peruse As Romeo could peruse he welcomed himself to the Capulet chateau for the banquet. It is occurrence that Romeo sees Juliet when there were such a significant number of alluring little youngsters at the dining experience. Did my heart love till now? Renounce it sight, For I neer saw genuine excellence till this night. At the point when Romeo sees Juliet he begins to look all starry eyed at her straight away on the grounds that she is so lovely and stands apart from the group. It is fortuitous event that plague struck in Mantua while Romeo was expelled from Verona and doesn't get expression of Friar Lawrences plan Where the irresistible epidemic reigned, Fixed up the entryways, and would not let us forward Who uncovered my letter then to Romeo? I was unable to send it An episode of plague implied that Friar Lawrences letter couldn't get to Romeo so he had no chance to get of realizing that Juliet was not dead but rather had drank an elixir. One might say that each character in the play realized the passings of Romeo and Juliet. I think it was a blend of the entirety of the characters. The two quarreling families achieved the passings of Romeo and Juliet. As the two families battle almost every time they see one another, it puts strain on their relationship. Romeo needed to sneak around Capulets manor so as to maintain a strategic distance from a battle. Romeo and Juliet comprehend their concern and Juliet says she will change her name. Deny thy father, and reject thy name. Or on the other hand if thou shrink not, be nevertheless sworn my affection, What's more, Ill never again be a Capulet. As her adoration for Romeo is so solid Juliet says she will conflict with her dads wishes and isolate herself from the family name. Capulet could be accused as it was at his banquet where Romeo and Juliet met. O she doth show the lights to consume so splendid. This is where Romeo sees Juliet at the dining experience just because. He likewise gave the list if people to attend to somebody who can't peruse so anything could occur. I am sent to discover those people whose names are here writ, and can never discover what names the composing individual hath here writ. I should to the scholarly, in great time. There were relatively few workers at the time who could peruse so Capulet could be accused since he ought to have given the rundown to somebody who could peruse. Woman Capulet and Capulet could be accused as they were attempting to get Juliet to wed Paris, in this way making it extremely hard for Juliet to see Romeo. This constrained Romeo to sneak around so as to see Juliet. I hear some clamor inside; dear love farewell. At the point when they hear a clamor from inside they need to end their discussion unexpectedly and this puts strain on their relationship. Tybalt and Mercutio caused the passings since when they battle and Mercutio is executed Romeo gets rankled. He at that point seeks retribution for Mercutios demise by executing Tybalt. Romeo away, be gone. The residents are up and Tybalt killed. These activities thusly get Romeo expelled. Furthermore, for that offense Quickly we do banish him consequently. Benvolio could likewise have added to the passings as he persuaded Romeo to go to the gathering where he met Juliet. With all the respected marvels of Verona. Genetic Engineering And Butanol Fermentation - Free Essay Example

Environmental concerns and non-renewable nature of fossil fuels has triggered research interest in biofuel production from lignocellulosic biomass. Biofuel production explores two main routes which are biochemical and thermochemical pathway. Biochemical pathway is concerned with the use of chemicals, enzymes and microbes during biofuel production while thermochemical pathway address processes like pyrolysis, gasification and combustion to produce syngas of producer gas. However, a hybrid technology that explores the combination of the biochemical and thermochemical pathway was recently developed via syngas fermentation. Butanol is a valuable biofuel and has the potential to replace gasoline due to its energy content. Focusing on the biochemical pathway, microbes are an integral part of butanol production via ABE fermentation. Clostridia species has been utilized for Acetone Butanol and Ethanol (ABE) fermentation. However, production concentration has been widely affected by inhibitors in the hydrolysate, substrate and butanol toxicity. The purpose of this study is to discuss the recent advancement on the genetic manipulation of clostridium species to optimize butanol production. Butanol fermentation is an age long technology which started in the early twentieth century while using molasses as substrates via the ABE fermentation. Clostridia have the capabilities to produce butanol from a range of substrates like food crops such as corn, sugarcane and cassava, they also utilize non-edible substances such as switchgrass, food wastes, wood and bagasse. Species of clostridia that have been used for ABE fermentation are Clostridium beijerinckii, Clostridium acetobutylicum, Clostridium pasteurianum, clostridium difficile, Clostridium tetani, Clostridium botulinum, and Clostridium saccharobutylicum among others. Furthermore, Clostridium beijerinckii and Clostridium acetobutylicum is the most widely used. Clostridia species first produce organic acids during to acidogenic phase which results to a lower pH that triggers a switch to the solventogenic phase when the solvents will be produced.

Animal Cloning Should Be Banned - 1977 Words

Step One: Get Attention Intro: (Show picture) of Dolly the sheep, first cloned animal. (Show picture of McDonalds) and how they do not have a policy against using cloned animal meat, in which according to endanimalcloning.org, in McDonalds See What were made of campaign, McDonald’s did not have a policy on cloned animal meat, or food from their offspring. Talk about audience analysis survey. Talk about how I am against animal cloning, and how I wrote a persuasive essay on human cloning last year, and that the topic of animal cloning interested me, considering animal cloning has been done before. I will be talking about how animal cloning is unethical, goes against animal welfare, is only legal, because of a flawed FDA report, and lastly the risks, technically outweigh the benefits. Thesis: Animal cloning should be banned because, it is unethical, harms animal welfare, was passed by a flawed FDA report, and has too many risks, with very little benefits. Persuasive Speech Essay free essay sample

â€Å"Kids who got paid all year under a very elegant scheme performed significantly better on their standardized reading tests at the end of the year. Statistically speaking, it was as if those kids had spent 3 extra months in school, compared to their peers, who did not get paid. † – Roland Fryer. Kids these days take school less and less seriously whether they’re lazy or bored in class; more students are failing or dropping out of high school. I propose that students get paid a set amount of money for every ‘A’ the student receives on his/her report card. By doing this we would: improve grades, reduce the number of dropouts, and teach them how to manage money, which all coincides with becoming an adult. We can improve the overall grades of students who are lazy or uninterested in doing work by incentivizing them with a set payment for each grade they get. Time magazine offered underprivileged college students to maintain at least a ‘C’ average and they would be paid $1000 per semester for a maximum of two terms. The students who were selected for this offer were 30% more likely to return the next year for college than the students who weren’t selected. In short, the students who were selected were more likely to come back to college the next year because they knew they would get paid. Roland Fryer also conducted a test in Dallas where he would pay students for each book they read, and the results were better than most of the other tests, where it increased test scores. While improving test scores is important, reducing the number of dropouts is also a crucial element in improving the school system. Reducing the number of high school dropouts has been a problem for many years and I believe that by incentivizing them with money, we can reduce their numbers. The annual number of high school dropouts in the US is about 3,030,000. That’s about 8,300 dropouts per day. That’s almost one percent of the US population. On average, a high school graduate will make $260,000 more than a high school dropout and graduates are eligible for 90% more jobs than a dropout would be. This, in turn leads to a better home, nicer cars, and a better way of life vs. what a dropouts prospects may be. Even so, all this money is useless if you don’t know how to properly manage it. Managing money would be an additional plus to getting paid for good grades because it would teach you the value of money and that you have to work for your money. Although, some people would argue that paying students for good grades doesn’t work or they can’t afford it or their child isn’t motivated by money. If that were the case, then all you have to do is find out what would motivate your child and offer that to them as a reward. A mother recently released her story about how she paid her child for every ‘A’ and ‘B’ they got but on ‘C’s and ‘D’s and ‘F’s they got nothing. She explained all the money they earned would go into their savings account until they were 16, and then they could spend it, save it, or invest it. At the age of 16, they were made to make a decision that adults would/should make. Their mom did this to teach them about the value and management of money. And so, even though money doesn’t motivate all students, the ones its does motivate improve themselves greatly after being paid. I believe that students should be paid for getting good grades because it would improve grades, reduce the number of dropouts, and teach them how to manage money. We recognize the many counts that money didn’t motivate students but evidence shows that the idea that we are introducing with money has increased the student’s grades and test scores in every test. I have researched this topic thoroughly and have quoted experts in this essay. After reading all this I hope you agree with me when I say that I hope they introduce a program that pays Students for getting good grades to help boost test scores and reduce the number of dropouts. According to Psychology Today, the United States has fallen behind other nations on key measures of education and approximately ? of student drop out before graduation Experts point to inadequate motivation as a key to the problem. Too many students are bored by school or distracted by unstable family life or any number of other diversions that face students today. Of course, learning has its own rewards, but some students respond best to CASH. If incentives for good grades can play a role in motivating learning, then wherever possible, these cash for grades programs should be put into effect. Another major reason to pay students for good grades is that these cash incentive programs have helped low-income students stay in school and get better grades. According to a study released by the social-policy research group MDRC, a non-partisan organization perhaps best known for evaluating welfare-to-work programs, cash incentive combined with counseling offered â€Å"real hope† to low-income and nontraditional students at two Louisiana community colleges. The program was simple: enroll in college at least half time, maintain at least a C average and earn $1000. 00 a semester for up to two terms. Participants were 30% more likely to register for a second semester than those students who were not enrolled in the program. And the students that were first offered the cash incentives were more likely than their peers to be enrolled in college a year after they had finished the two term program. Students offered the cash incentives in this program did not just enrolling more classes: they earned more credits and were more likely to attain a C average than nonparticipants. Although U. S. college enrollment has limbed, college completion rates have not. More case for grades incentive programs may help improve upon the number of college graduates among lower income students. There are critics in higher education that are concerned that cash incentives will encourage students to start taking easier courses to ensure they’ll do well enough to pocket the money. â€Å"Everyone knows what the gut classes are when you are in college†. Stated Kirabo Jackson, an assistant professor of labor economics at Cornell University who has studied cash incentives or high school students. â€Å"By rewarding people for a GPA, you are actually giving them an impetus to take an easier route through college†. Other critics note that students’ internal drive to learn may be sapped as they focus on getting an external reward. Paying for good grades is long a tactic of fed-up parents; the idea of paying for good grades has migrated from the family room to the classroom. In states ranging from Texas to Massachusetts, a growing number of students are pocketing cold cash for good grades or test scores. In Houston, Texas, a three month old, privately funded $1. 5 million program rewarded fifth-graders- and notably, their parents when they were able to master basic math standards. Each family stands to earn $1050. 00, not a small amount, especially in a community where 80% of the kids qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Meanwhile, down the interstate, more than 10,000 Dallas, Texas students have earned up to $400. 00 for taking and passing Advanced Placement tests in a newly expanded $1. 5 million program funded by a private foundation. Most Americans and many educators feel uncomfortable with the idea of paying cash for good grades. According to the most recent national Phi Delta Kappa poll, one out of four Americans say students should be paid for their grades. There’s something about the practice that just feels†¦. wrong. Isn’t there greater value in reading a good book than a certificate for a cheese pizza or a new video game? Isn’t education cheapened when its sum value is a remote chance at a prize? A large number of schools are participating in a pay-for-grades program have seen test scores in reading and math go up by almost 40%. The program, named â€Å"The Sparks Program† will pay seventh graders up to $500. 00 and fourth graders as much as $250. 00 for good performances on 10 assessment tests. About two thirds of the 59 schools in the program improved their scores by margins above the citywide average. In conclusion, clearly there are 3 sides to the argument, mine, yours and the melding of the two, with regard to paying students to get good grades. I feel strongly, that some sort of incentive, or â€Å"payment† should be given to students who are not motivated towards education. The â€Å"reward† does not have to be monetary in nature, but could be what drives the individual- the latest new clothes, a new scooter, bike, or car. A trip, a vacation, or for some, even food on the table. Whatever the incentive is, using it to motivate students in any educational situation, I believe is a good tool for success.

Sexual Orientation In TodayS Society Essays - Gender,

Sexual Orientation In Today'S Society Sexual Orientation in Today's Society In Today's spciety, we can brag about our sexual orientation. There are many role models today who are centerpieces for the gay community. These leaders helped get homosexual people to the level that they are on today. ?Taboo? was the word that was used for any discussion on this matter. Thirty years ago, it was unheard of to have a gay character on television, or in politics or even as your co-worker. Now within the last fifteen to twenty years. People have accepted homosexuals even more due to the understanding and severity of the AIDS virus. When the AIDS virus was discovered in 1981, people labeled it as ?Gay Man's Disease?. This is not the case. True, gay men are a percentage of the growing population of america's AIDS patients. But included in it are drug users and unfortunate blood transfusions. In this paper, I will elaborate on the many theories why people are homosexual and the predjusies that they endure. A main idea for the reason why people are gay is the Nurture vs Nature theory. It is one of the ways of thinking that have been thrown up in the air for a while. It tries to prove that since birth that there has been a growing chemical inbalance in the person growing up in society. This of course is not a fashionable notion today. The overwhelming message of the popular culture, which a thousand films and ten thousand love songs drill into us, is that to find a full life we must seek adventure, drink the cup of passion, follow our heart. Loving you can't be wrong, the voice croons, because it feels so right. They want to believe this. They may even get a vicarious thrill from watching it work out happily ever after on the silver screen. But in their better moments, they know otherwise. They know, even without Scripture to tell us, that the heart is devious above all else (Jer 17:9), that positive experiences and strong desires can never legitimize immorality. They know it when a pedophile describes his nurturing relationships with children. They know it when an adulterous wife complains of her boring husband. They know it when a pornographer proclaims his rights of free speech. They know it when a stripper rationalizes her exploitation. They feel so strongly on their pride and will do anything to uphold it. They face a certain problem where there is little or less understanding on their culture and the way that they live. ?Gay-Bashing? has become a serious problem in todays society. Just last year in Michigan a young man was tied up and beaten to death all because of his sexual orientation. This is a quote from a gay basher who has his own website: ? When I was young, I remember working in a Pizza Hut and a homo grabbed my ass, I turned around to punch him in the face and quickly realized I'd be fired if I did. I stormed off to the back of the restaurant until he left. After complaining to a few thugs who also worked there, they told me that I would be great to join them for their little hobby in Harrisburg. They said they'd go to River street where queers hang out, pick one up, beat the crap out of him and steal his wallet. They proposed that I'd be good for helping to roll queers, and they had yet to find one with less than 50 bucks. At first I thought yeah, that would be fun, especially because I was still really ticked?. In SoHo, many homosexuals work along with the neighborhood police to help wipe out this problem. According to ?Rainbow Stew?, a outrach organization to help every gay person. ?This is a serious problem that our people are faced with every day now. It is not looked at as serioulsly as religious persecution but it should be.? We have to understand that they are people to and even though we might not agree with the way they live their lives. We must respect them, the same way that they show respect to us. The main type of discrimination against the homoselual people is Homophobia. This is the fear of gay people. This is not an argument to criminalize or imprison homosexuals, but an analogy to the relation between strong inclinations and moral responsibility. We could easily apply the Just

Just How Many Books Are There Googles Massive Project to Count ThemALL Books to the ceiling, books to the sky, / My piles of books are a mile high. / How I love them! / How I need them! / Ill have a long beard by the time I read them.   ~Arnold Lobel Have you ever wondered just how many books are actually out there?   Well, thanks to Googles researchers, now we know: 128,854,790.   (A number, of course, which will continually change.) Googles Herculean effort is aimed at cataloging and indexing all existing books. The goal is to ultimately have every piece of literature in the world digitized and searchable. The project had some prickly problems with which to contend from the beginning, starting with what actually counts as a book.   You can read more about how they arrived at what counts here. Despite the altruism on many levels of Googles meta-project, there are some concerns about having a private company being in charge of all the worlds data.   But their work will accomplish what governments and/or non-profit entities have not been able to achieve:   the free dissemination of data to the masses, one of the biggest changes of access to knowledge since the printing press.

The Negative Effect of Social Media Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The Negative Effect of Social Media - Essay Example The psychological and social impacts of social media are surfacing as the usage of social media is increasing our lives. Social media impacts on different aspects of our lives including emotional state, identity development and even the direction of our lives in some cases. Of these, the emotional impacts of social media are perhaps the most discussed negative implication. Social media has been criticized for the effects it has on the psychological state of its users. According to Lippy Copeland, ‘Facebook appears to exploit an Achilles heel of human nature’ (Copeland). Social media has created a culture where everything a person does is posted on Facebook. This has become an addiction and a burden for the users. Often users post information that becomes a source of envy or depression for their friends. When users see their friends having fun in their lives, they feel a sense of loneliness or depression. The excitement in the pictures may be fake or just a small part of the friend’s life but it creates a feeling of envy in the user. Even the user’s friends who post happy and exciting pictures online are not immune to the negative effects of social media. Information that a user posts online is being used to develop a profile of the user. This process also referred as data mining is used to develop aggregate information about the user using his social media information across different websites. This information is then sold to employees, insurance companies, and other interested parties. According to Lori Andrews, ‘our application for credit could be declined not on the basis of your own finances or credit history, but  on the basis of aggregate data’ (Andrews). Facebook users, as a result, may be robbed off a certain job because of what they posted online; or their insurance premium may rise when they start showing more interest in dangerous sports. While

What did Christopher accomplish in his quest of finding the truth on Essay

What did Christopher accomplish in his quest of finding the truth on who killed the dog - Essay Example You also have to understand how machines work and I’m good at understanding how machines work. You also have to be someone who would like being on their own in a tiny space-craft thousands and thousands of mile† quote from chapter 83 Quote 3. â€Å"Mr. Jeavons said that I liked maths because it was safe. He said I liked maths because it meant solving problems, and these problems were difficult and interesting but there was always a uncomplicated answer at the end. And what he meant was that maths wasn’t like life because in life there are no straightforward answers at the end.† Explanation of collage. Pictures from 1 to 5 is the plot of the story from finding the mystery of the dog’s death then going further to the complicated life of Christopher and his discoveries. Being an autistic child, it was hard for him to accept the truth of his father’s lies, and he had to go away to find his place outside of his father’s authority. The story does not end in finding who the real killer was, but in discovering truths hidden from him. Finally, we find Christopher escaping and finding his place in the real world, where he excels in. Justifications for chosen quotation. Quote no. 1 is appropriate as it signals beginning of the story and investigation. Although far from murder, Quote 2 in picture 3 is chosen as it showed Christopher’s desire to get out after he discovered the truths. Quote 3 suggests that he finds solving problems in math easier to do than solving mysteries in life. Then Quote 4 finds Chris dreaming he is alone and finding life easier when those bothering him are gone. Quotes and scenes came from (Haddon,

Wide Reading Assignment - Sherlock Holmes Essay Example for Free

Wide Reading Assignment Sherlock Holmes Essay This assignment is based on three Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle which are, The Man with the Twisted Lip, The Final Problem, and The Empty House. The aim is to give a full understanding of each story and to give a good idea of why these stories are still as popular today as they were 100 years ago. I will explain this by discussing some of the characters and taking into account the social and historical context. Sherlock Holmes stories are all quite different in their own way because they explore different kinds of crime and characters. Such as in The Man with the Twisted Lip, where they are trying to solve a suspected murder and in The Final Problem they are trying to catch Professor Moriarty for various crimes. These three stories do have some similarities, which are that Sherlock Holmes always solves the crimes and is always the main character. They also involve Dr. Watson, a doctor, who seems to be Holmes companion in solving these crimes. Arthur Conan Doyle has created Holmes character very effectively as in that period in history crime was rife in London and the public were scared and thought the police force were not protecting their community as well as they should. So because Holmes didnt work for the police force and always solved the crimes then he seemed to be like a hero to the public and maybe their fantasy because he kept people safe and they probably wanted so much for him to be real. The readers of Sherlock Holmes in Victorian England showed so much interest that when Doyle tried to end the stories of Sherlock Holmes by killing him in The Final Problem there was a public outcry and Doyle even received death threats because they wanted so much for him to carry on with this character that had caught their attention so vividly. In that time of history there were no televisions or much entertainment at all for the public so that is probably why they got so intrigued by this wonderful character that solved all the crimes. I would describe Sherlock Holmes as a very pompous, confident and intelligent person. He also seems to be quite secretive about his plans such as when he persuades Dr. Watson to go on one of his missions, he doesnt tell him where they are going or what is in store for him and this makes me feel quite anxious for Watson, such as in The Man with the Twisted Lip when he said But Im all in the dark and Holmes answers Of course you are. Youll know all about it presently. I think this is a very significant quality in all of the Sherlock Holmes stories because it gives a sense of mystery for the reader and makes it a lot more interesting. Holmes also has a dark-side to himself, which is displayed when he states: Had I been recognised in that den my life would not of been worth an hours purchase, for I have used it before now for my own purposes.

Bush Gore :: essays research papers

 · ASHINGTON -- The storm over his campaign finance practices has thrust Al Gore into what his advisers concede is by far the most perilous moment of his political career, leaving his aides scrambling to contain the damage. The growing nervousness results from the announcement last week that Janet Reno, the attorney general, is reviewing whether the vice president's fund-raising activities may have been improper for such a high-ranking official. The inquiry could lead to the appointment of a special prosecutor. His troubles were only compounded this week by fresh disclosures that Gore may have been more immersed in fund raising than he has acknowledged, as well as the disclosure of memorandums suggesting that Gore could have known and should have known that some of his solicitations from the White House were not permitted on federal property. Mounting a drive to keep the fallout to a minimum, Gore's top aides and closest advisers around the country have begun holding conference calls every morning to plot strategy for reacting to the disclosures and, as one participant put it, "get information from outside the bunker" of the White House. While the 15- to 20-minute calls were described as businesslike, another person who takes part observed that some people on the line are always "jittery and over-reactive." The vice president's aides are so sensitive about the political consequences of the current allegations that they have made special efforts to try to root out anti-Gore leakers to the press in the White House. The controversy has also led to some finger-pointing among Gore's advisers over whether his office had been too slow at first to make public the details of his fund-raising practices and then had gone to the other extreme by releasing too many documents at a briefing last week. "Nothing like this has ever happened to the vice president during his career," said Roy Neel, an adviser to Gore for nearly two decades and his first chief of staff in the White House. "He hasn't had damage control to deal with anything of this order." A handful of recent surveys found that Gore's reputation has been tarnished by the controversy. In a Los Angeles Times poll published Friday, only 34 percent of the American public reported a favorable impression of the vice president, compared with 59 percent for President Clinton. Several of Gore's advisers said that while they had thought they could put the hearings behind them, they now believed that there was a strong possibility that Ms.

Eco-feminism & political and social movement Essay

Eco-feminism can be defined a political and social movement which aims at combining feminism with environmentalism or, in other words, to unite deep ecology with feminist concepts. Actually, I have chosen eco-feminism as it draws relations between women oppression and degradation of nature. Environmental problems are of great concern now along with women equality. Nature is degrading and women’s rights are still discriminating. Therefore, eco-feminism argues that there is a strong link between degradation of women and oppression of women. Eco-feminism also explores the relations between sexism, racism, domination of nature and social inequality. It is known that eco-feminism originates from union of ecological thinkers and feminist which believe that social mentality is to blame for oppression of women and domination of men. It is directly related to abuse of environment. Eco-feminism is claimed to combine bioregional democracy with eco-anarchism. Eco-feminism strongly proclaims the importance of interrelations between humans and animals, human and insects, and the earth. Central idea of the feminism is that men ownership has resulted in dominator culture promoting food export, tragedy of the commons, abusive land ethics, exploitation of people and over-gazing. Land and animals are viewed only as economic resources and eco-feminism aims at fighting such positioning. The primary goal of eco-feminism is to re-define the views on productivity, attitudes of males and females towards nature and animals, as well as to prevent ill-using of animals and insects. The key figures in the development of eco-feminism are Carol Adams, Helene Aylon, Judi Bari, Mary Daly, Monica Sjoo, etc. For example, Carol Adams is interested in relations between feminism and vegetarianism. In her works she wrote that women ahs to abuse their rights to provide men with the best food. Summing up, the primary goal of eco-feminism is to explain associations between degradation of women and degradation of nature. Works Cited Eco-feminism.
